That’s The Way it is……..

….., with people like you and me, and probably many others. We open the wine. the Cava or Champagne and we are totally consumed by he situation we are in at that very moment, not giving it another thought. It’s there for us to enjoy, right? Imagine the wine maker, getting the order from all parts of the world and sending out their Cava. Do you think that the final consumer, the person who gets to enjoy this fine beverage, during the celebration of a birthday, wedding party or just a get together with good friends, is paying any attention to where it comes from, who made it, how long it has been waiting down in the deep of the cellars to see daylight?


It’s almost like a message in a bottle, sometimes it is out there in the oceans, just floating around for ever. The producers will only in rare occasion get to know how it was finally consumed, during what kind of event. Opens up for fantasies, doesn’t it? How many laughters, how many tears, how many bad moments and how many good have been part of the final pop of the cork? Next time you open a bottle of wine, wherever it’s from, give it a thought, check the internet for information with regards to winery, wine maker, history etc. I promise it will taste ten times better! The origin of Cava Bertha started already with  Josep Torres Sibill wine cellars. This is where these fabulous wines are produced. Located in the very centre of Sant Sadurni­ d’Anoia. Today the production consists of seven different types of cava in a total of 180.000 bottles per year.


In 1989 they started working under the trademark of Josep Torres Sibill. The first vintage, released to the market, was only 5.000 bottles, out of which two types of cava – Brut and Brut Nature – came out on the market. In 1998, the registration of Cava Bertha as an official trademark was achieved. The new name managed to arouse curiosity among the cava lovers and people are still discovering these Cavas.


The name of Bertha is inspired in the First World War when a highly powerful German cannon called Big Bertha entered service in 1914. It was named after the daughter of its constructor Alfred Krupp and although only four canons were constructed, they were a true revolution at that time. The name of the Cava Bertha comes from its strength and revolutionary spirit.


Since 1998, the concept has been totally different – new image of the product, new presentations, new concept, new commercial philosophy and above all new products. Innovation and progress, is the name of the game! In less then a decade, Cava Bertha has become a part of the desired market. The best shops, the best restaurants and the best distributors, not only in Spain but also in Europe, Asia and America, has this Cava on their wine lists.


One of the most important characteristics of Cava Bertha is the selection of the different base wines. It is a crucial process for the production of quality cava. There are usually more than sixty different types of base wines to be examined, among them being Macabeu, Xarel·lo, Parellada, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Out of this quantity of grape varietals, the decision is made to choose the one that carries the necessary quality for the desired blend. This blend always consists of different percentage of distinct varietals, predominantly Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada, which have been locally used for production of sparkling wine for more than one hundred years.


Bertha Siglo XXI Gran Reserva, Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel·lo and 10% Chardonnay

Minimum maturation sur lies, 36 months, which produces a great aromatic complexity.

Bright yellow color with fine and steady bubbles. Intensive and extensive aromatic range, white fruit and flowers perfectly conjugated with lees aging: confectionery, brioche, smoked, dried fruits. Very elegant nose.  The entrance of this Cava is fresh, creamy and elegant. The bubbles are subtle, fine and very well built, durable and with an original personality. Its aftertaste is very long and delicate. If you need a food Cava, this is the one, not that I mind enjoying it as is!
